Death of the Professor Jacques Mezger

 Professor Jacques Mezger

On Marseille, France. Passed away pacefully the 11th November 2014 at the age of 93. The Professor Jacques Metzger was one of the  French pioneer  of the modern organic chemistry. He obtained is PhD at the University of Nancy, and in 1948 he joined the University of Saar as a “Maître Assistant”, and a few years after he moved to Marseille as a Professor. This is in this town that he developed most of his career.  He founded the “Organic Chemical Laboratory”, and was with Professor Guillemonat the founder of the IPSOI (Petroleochemistry and  Industrial Organic Synthesis Institute) in Marseille. He occupied various prestigious positions in the CNRS (French National Research Center), the Ministry of Education, the CNIC (National Chemical Information Center). He also worked as a consultant for French Chemical companies and he was invited in various countries as guest speaker in the field of hetherocyclic chmistry. One of his major achievement if the serie of books knonw as the “Wiessberger”  (thiazoles, thiazolines, etc. ). During all his career he promoted the development of Industry - Research collaboration. He was also an active Member of the “Academie des Sciences, Letters et Arts de Marseille”. (Academia of Sciences, Letters and Arts of Marseille)

The funeral took place in the church “Le Sacré Coeur” in Marseille, in the presence of his family and most of the members of his former laboraotry and of the IPSOI’s Alumini.
